Meditation 101

To be put in the most simplest of terms, meditation is the art relaxation to re-connection. Relaxing the mind and the body to reconnect with your Spirit. The art of focusing on the now and being present in the moment. Most people think that meditation requires you to shut off your brain and have no thoughts at all. Then when you can’t achieve this, you believe you’re not meditating correctly and just choose to give up.

Let me clear the air: THERE IS NO WRONG WAY TO MEDITATE!

Meditating is never about silencing the mind, it’s about shifting through the thoughts that arise during this time. It’s about listening to your Spirit as it brings you messages from the Universe, your Ancestors and The Most High. This is how you reconnect with your Higher Self, your Christ Consciousness and go deeper into your personal ascension. You can meditate in any position, but it is best to be sitting straight with your legs crossed. If you cannot cross your legs, just sitting up straight is fine. No, it doesn’t matter where you sit, as long as your spine is straight.

Step One: Breathing Focus – When you first begin to meditate, you want to think about your breathing. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it for a minimum of 3 seconds, and then release through your mouth. Repeat throughout your meditation. Take deep abdominal breaths and with each breath relax a part of your body beginning from your head all the way down to your toes. If thoughts come let them.

Step Two: Words of Power – When focusing on your breathing, it’s easy to get side tracked with your everyday thoughts of worry and stress. You can use powerful reinforcements to snap yourself back to your breathing focus, and help you stay in alignment. Two chants you can repeat to yourself are as follows:

“Inhale Life(during inhale); Exhale Strife(during exhale)”    and    “I Breathe in Balance(during inhale); So I Can Release Peace(during exhale)”

You can utilize these sentences as tools to re-center yourself when you find your mind distracted.

Step Three: Shifting Thoughts – When you first begin to meditate, you will find that it may not be so simple to shift through your thoughts because we usually begin with thoughts of our everyday lives (worries and stress about our workplace, family, kids, bills, etc.). THAT IS OK! Remember, you’re not a master meditator (yet) and you’re still learning. After your initial thoughts of your everyday life, try to refocus on your breathing exercises we previously discussed. Watch your thoughts as if you were streaming a movie, not to give any thought belief or attention.

Step Four: Taking Notes – This is why it is important for you to realize that meditation is NOT about silencing the mind. You need your thoughts during this time, they act as a portal for your messages that are sent to you. Before you begin to meditate, grab a journal or some paper and a pen and place it next to you. During your meditation, you can use your writing supplies as a tool for reflection and dissection. Once you’ve been meditating for a few minutes, you’ve shifted through thoughts and are getting in the hang of re-centering your focus to your breathing, here is when the magic happens. The thoughts that arise during moments of mediation are MESSAGES! WRITE THEM DOWN! For example, if you’ve been meditating for 5 minutes or so (and you’ve already gone through the everyday thoughts like worry and stress) and you’re zoned in on your breathing focus, and then all of a sudden a thought appears and it is a vision of you standing next to a yoga studio. Write that down and then refocus yourself on your breathing. Or if a thought arises that shows you a glimpse of another Being (like your friend, family or lover) behaving deceitfully, or just an outline of them in general, write down what you see and then get back to your breathing.

Step Five: Reflect and Decipher – Don’t forget that it is in post-mediation (mostly) where your awakening begins. After you finish meditating, you want to reflect back on the notes taken, and decipher the messages sent to you through those images or thoughts. It is in these reflections and deciphers you learn how to trust the process, and find what sets your Soul on fire.

 

Did you meditate? Did you have trouble silencing your mind? Did you have problems getting past the everyday thoughts to get to your Universal Messages?  DON’T GIVE UP! KEEP GOING! YOU’RE NOT DOING IT WRONG! And next time, set aside more time for your meditation so that you give yourself a change to get past these obstacles.

What Is Wellness?

What comes to mind when you think of the word “Wellness”? Do you picture yourself in a quiet oasis getting a massage and relaxing, or does your mind start wondering off to a place flooded with positivity and happiness? Either way, you aren’t too far off from either of those thoughts. Wellness is the overall state of your entire Being; Mind, Body and Soul.

Wellness is about how you are doing physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Let’s dissect each one of those to ensure we are taking positive steps to the success of our wellness.

Being physically well is not limited to the practice of exercise, although this does play a major role. It is important to remember that your body is a temple, and returns the love you show it.  It is best to be as easy on your physical avatar as possible, especially when it comes to labor. Do your best to avoid as much hard labor as you possibly can during your working days, and if perhaps you cannot, be sure to do something to counteract the hardship you endure. For instance, if you do a lot of back-breaking work, then at the end of every night it is best to do stretches or yoga poses associated with realigning your spine. Doing things of this nature can help prevent back issues in the future. Being physically well can also pertain to your personal hygiene and self-care. When you feel and look your best, you do and perform at your best; when you do and perform at your best, you give and receive the best. Creating routines of personal hygienic and self-care habits, is a part of being mindful of your physical wellness.

Emotional wellness always has a way of presenting itself intimidatingly, and seems to be overwhelmingly confusing for most. Majority are not taught how or even why being emotionally aware is significant and beneficial to the development of our lives as adults. When we discover why it is important to stand in the space of our emotions rather than running in attempts at avoiding things we may not feel ready to deal with, it eases the path of learning how to move through those emotions to make it to the other side. Becoming well emotionally is how we begin to feel complete as a person and find comfort and happiness in being ourselves. One way to begin is to write down your unhealed trauma and find ways of releasing, so that you can replace.

So many people bunch wellness and spirituality in the same group, and with valid reasons to do so. When you become spiritually aware and begin to ensure you are living through love and innerstanding, it’s almost impossible to accomplish without being in a constant state of mindfulness. Being in a constant state of mindfulness is to be consistently aware of the over-all wellness of your avatar: the human body. Meditation, exercise, awareness, and reflection are a few simple ways to being your spiritual wellness journey.

Just like physical wellness is associated with exercise and movement, being mentally well is associated with the exercise and metaphorical movement of your brain! Your brain never shuts down, never sleeps, is never quiet and never still. It is in an infinite state of existence, to be everlasting through every realm. To think a thought you must already be thinking about thinking; it is the emptiness and fullness of completely nothing and absolutely everything. Your mental is the starting place for peace, love, and happiness. When you take steps to becoming mentally well, it trickles down like corporate punishment. A great way to embark on the journey of mental wellness is to write down some of your negative thinking and find a positive replacement.

Wellness is getting recognized more and more as a significant foundation and solution for the over-all healthiness of our entire population. Get Well, Get Wealthy!

Can Nature Relieve Depression?

A lot of the times we are boggled down by the weight of the responsibilities our lives require, especially if we are not taught how to balance out the difficulties of the lows and the adrenaline that comes with the highs. Emotional and mental health doesn’t seem to be a priority, and almost not even recognized, in the United States. Therefore, we have an enormous amount of people struggling with depression, anxiety, self-hate, and other emotional and mental obstacles; and doing so with very little healthy outlets of expression and release, or a support system to encourage transformation.   

We forget that we are surrounded by healthy outlets in our every day lives. If you are able to go outside and feel the wind, see the trees, feel the grass, see the sun, hear the animals, then you have multiple Beings around you for expressing your feelings and worries. The Universe works in connection with Gaia (Mother Nature) to gift us with everything we need through natural resources. Getting grounded is a great first step in relieving some of the things we harbor that fuel our depression and sadness. Sitting with nature not only helps us emotionally, but it is a great way to reconnect with Spirit. If you’ve been feeling a little lost lately, as if you’re not even sure who you are anymore, getting grounded can help to reawaken the hidden you that lays dormant.  

Getting grounded is not a materialistic exercise, meaning there is nothing required to get grounded. It is a relationship that you are reestablishing between you and nature.

HOW DO YOU GET GROUNDED?

Take off your shoes and as much clothing as you would like, or the weather permits, and go walking outside. Walk until you can find a place that you can sit and relax in, possibly near a tree (because trees posses and transmit energies), but make sure not to cheat yourself during the walk. Don’t walk too fast, slow down and take in your surroundings. The birds, trees, bugs, streams of water maybe, how strong or light the wind is, how the grass or dirt/soil feel underneath your feet. What do these things remind you of? Being a child and playing outside? A past life in a different time? Or maybe even a dream life you have yet to live? Whatever it is, allow yourself to FEEL it. Go through the motions OF emotions.   

Find a comfortable place to sit and relax. It could be a place of shade or bright sunlight, you can even use the moonlight if you’d like. Although the daytime provides a different source of energy and is BEST utilized for this exercise, night time can work. Now that you are lounging with nature, it’s time to release. As previously mentioned, you can use a tree for release if that is what speaks to your Spirit, or it can be flowers, animals, the sky, stars, water, whatever you feel comfortable opening up to. It’s about expression. Learning to express yourself in a healthy manner while simultaneously letting unhealthy emotions and feelings go.   You can express whatever you would like, from the smallest issues to your biggest worries and fears. You can use this time to cry, scream, yell, do whatever that makes you feel a little lighter. Sit with nature as long as you need to or as long as you can. Spend your walk back thinking and analyzing how you felt before, during, and after the exercise. Journaling this experience can help you stay focused and track your progression.

  If this exercise is created as a habit, you will find yourself not harboring so many issues or unresolved emotions to release. Overtime, almost without recognition, you become one with Gaia and you open the portals for communication and begin hearing the messages sent to you through Universal frequencies. Doing this is phenomenal for your spiritual awakening, your activation of your Pineal Gland (third eye), helping with depression, and emotional baggage.
